Autumn Small Things

It’s officially Autumn, my favourite time of year. I love the frosty mornings, and the warm afternoons and the earlier sunsets. I love how you can still get lots of outdoor time in, as well as the cosiness of curling up with a hot drink and a good book. I love how Autumn feels like tender endings and fresh starts, like bright, fiery colours as well as darkening skies. Autumn feels like life to me, a swirl of bright beautiful moments and the passing of time, and the loss of some things, and celebration, togetherness and thankfulness too.

I wrote a poem about it:

Autumn Leaves

I like how the the leaves are bright red and burning orange

Like a celebration.

I like the way the leaves make losing and dying beautiful

How, in all the falling, they are a spiral

of beginning and ending and beginning.

I like how I feel at home among them,

a spiral of joy and sorrow and joy.
